Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small values a site stores in your browser and can receive with later requests. Local storage keeps values in your browser for the site's code to read. Hiring Signal uses both for the purposes described below.
Account and session cookies
Supabase authentication uses cookies to complete sign in and maintain your account session. They allow the service to recognise your session when you open account pages or save changes. The authentication provider manages their duration and refresh behaviour.
A separate cookie remembers which account page you were trying to open before signing in. It expires after 30 minutes and is cleared when authentication finishes. It contains a page path, not an email address or password.
Blocking or deleting these cookies can sign you out or prevent account features from working. If you choose Google sign in, Google's authentication pages may also use cookies under Google's own policies.
Optional CV AI requests to OpenRouter, Anthropic and TypeSafe run on our server. They add no provider cookies or provider credentials to your browser and store no CV text in browser storage.
Operator email tools and model cost accounting run on our server using the existing account session. They add no separate tracking cookie or browser storage record, and email drafts are not saved in browser storage.
Preferences stored in this browser
This browser can remember a light, dark or system appearance choice. Product pages are dark. About, contact and the legal pages stay a light reading surface, including before you sign in. The workspace also saves display density, sorting and activity read markers for your account on this browser. These preferences do not automatically follow you to another device.
Your student, junior or experienced career mode is saved on your account rather than in local storage. Signing in on another device uses the same choice. It needs no separate cookie.
Before signing in, this browser can hold up to 100 saved post references for 30 days. Expired entries are removed when the site next reads them. These saves move to the first account you sign in to. The browser also remembers when you dismiss the account prompt, pausing it for 7 days.
The browser remembers up to 200 matches you marked as not relevant, and up to 256 activity read markers. Hidden matches are specific to this browser and saved search. Older entries are replaced when these limits are reached.
Your last workspace page is remembered per account for up to 7 days so you can return to it. An expired page reminder is removed when it is next read.
Deleting your account clears its preferences, read markers, page reminder and account bound held saves from the browser making the request. Hidden matches are cleared on that browser too. Saves not yet bound to an account remain, and data on other browsers remains until it expires, is replaced or you clear it.
Local storage can remain until it is replaced or you clear the site's browser data. Clearing it resets these preferences and read markers; it does not delete your account or the work saved on the server.
Usage measurement
Hiring Signal loads no Google Analytics and sets no analytics cookies of its own. Our network provider adds its own page measurement, described in the next section. Our account usage records store your first workspace visit, first real save, when you skipped the brief step if you did, and one foreground activity date per UTC day in our database. Daily records are retained for 90 days; milestones remain until you delete your account.
Cookies left by earlier versions of the site may remain in your browser until they expire or you remove them using browser controls. The current site does not use them for measurement.
Our network provider
Cloudflare delivers this site and protects it from automated abuse. Two things it adds are worth naming, because our own code does not add them and you can see them in your browser. Cloudflare page measurement counts visits and page speed without cookies and without identifying you. Cloudflare bot protection runs a check on page load and can set a short lived cookie on your browser, typically named __cf_bm, to tell a person from a script.
Both are added by Cloudflare at the network edge rather than by Hiring Signal, and both are governed by Cloudflare's own privacy terms. Neither is used to build a profile of you, and neither feeds the account usage records described above.
Your browser controls
Use your browser's privacy or site data settings to inspect, block or delete cookies and local storage for Hiring Signal. Your browser's help pages explain the controls available on your device. Restricting storage can affect sign in and remembered preferences.
Hiring Signal has no cookie preference panel. Deleting your account clears its preferences, activity read markers and bound pending save in the browser used for deletion. You can clear remaining site data, including old cookies and data on other devices, through your browser.
